These flowers are very easy to make, and they can be used for any occasion depending on the colors you choose. The following instructions will make one flower that is approximately 3″ in diameter.
Supplies:
- 9″ x 1.5″ Paper (any color)
- Scissors
- Glue (I prefer using a hot glue gun)
- Pencil
- Rhinestones, flat back pearls or beads (I find that size 1cm works best)
Instructions:
1. Cut out a 1.5″ x 1.5″ square from one end of the paper. Fold the square in half. Like the middle image above, draw half of a petal on the folded paper with the center of the petal on the fold. Keeping the paper folded, cut along the drawn line. Unfold the half petal. You now have your petal template.
2. I used a marker so you could see the lines better, but with a pencil, lightly trace the petal template. Make sure you can fit five petals on the paper.
3. Cut out the five petals, and erase the pencil markings.
4. Make a small crease at the flat side (bottom) of the petal by folding the petals in half lengthwise.
5. Put a small amount of glue along the flat side of the petal inside the fold. Fold on the crease you created earlier, and glue the two sides together.
6. Apply some glue to the side of the bottom of one petal, and place the bottom of another petal on top, gluing the two petals together. Repeat this step on another two petals. You should have one lone petal left over.
7. Place your pointer finger inside one petal and your thumb inside the other petal. Using your fingers, pinch the sides of the petals together. Glue the sides together where the petals meet. Repeat for the other two glued petals.
8. Glue the sets of petals together like shown in the image above. Try and keep the petals even.
9. Apply glue to the two open sides of the four petals and to the middle of the flower. Squeeze in the last petal. Place a small amount of glue on the back of a rhinestone/flat back pearl/bead, and glue it to the center of the flower.
You’ve made your first 5-petal paper flower!
If you plan on making several flowers, it is easier to complete one step on all of the petals before moving onto the next step. See the example photos below.
