Review: Misfit Shine

I hadn’t heard of the company, Misfit, until I started researching activity trackers for women. I wanted something that was more feminine than the popular activity trackers I saw everywhere. I read and watched several reviews on the Misfit Shine before purchasing one. I decided to go with the color Wine, but the Shine comes in a variety of colors.

The packaging was nice and simple. The Shine is aluminum and was held in the packaging with a magnet. Inside was also a black sport band, a clasp, an activity clip, a CR2032 coin cell battery (not shown in the picture), and a tool to open the back of the Shine for the battery.

The Shine is a little larger than a quarter in diameter and is about as thick as a stack of 5 quarters. It’s quite small and thin, which really makes a difference on small wrists.

I mainly purchased the Shine to track my sleep, but it can also track steps, distance, swimming, cycling and more. Yes, it is also a watch. With a finger, tap the Shine twice to display the time and activity progress. Because the Shine is water resistant up to 50 meters, I don’t even take it off when I shower.

While going through reviews, a complaint that came up often was that the Shine fell out of the band easily. My Shine is almost 6 months old. I wear it while doing anything and everything, and it has never fallen out.

With the clasp, the Shine can be worn just about anywhere. I tested the strength of the magnet in the clasp on a t-shirt, and it held on pretty well.

A huge plus with the Shine is that you never have to charge it. The first battery lasted about four to five months for me. When the battery started dying, my Misfit app notified the company, and they sent me an email. I filled out the form for a free replacement battery, and Misfit sent me two! How great is that?!

The only negative thing I have found with the Shine is that my hair sometimes gets caught in the clip part of the band. It’s pretty annoying, but not enough for me to get rid of the Shine.
